The following three courses are offered in
partnership with and taught by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron
(CPS).
Basic Boating and Safe Navigation (36 Hours)

Fee: $215.00 plus GST (includes exam, charts, nautical instruments
and course materials)
This is a comprehensive course in safe boating for power and sail
boaters on coastal and inland waters. Topics include compass charts,
navigational aids, course plotting, safety at sea, regulations, manners
and customs, anchoring and refuelling.
Note: Successful candidates will receive their “Pleasure Craft Operator
Card” and are eligible for membership in CPS, boat insurance programs
and advanced courses. Normal refund policy is not in effect due to the
cost of materials provided to learners.

Pleasure Craft Operator Card – Canadian Coast Guard Approved (9
Hours)

Fee: $70.00 plus GST (includes course
materials)
Mandatory boat operator licensing is now a reality. All operators born
after Apr 1,1983 are required to show proof of competency when operating
any pleasure craft fitted with a motor. All operators of craft four
metres and under in length, including personal watercraft, are required
to show proof of competency (effective September 15, 2002). Earn your
Pleasure Craft Operator Card upon successful completion of this course.
Note: Normal refund policy is not in effect due to the cost of materials
provided to learners.

Piloting (Coastal
Navigation) (39 Hours)

Fee: $185.00 plus GST (includes chart, manual and homework folder)
Piloting is the study of navigation practiced in lakes, rivers, bays and
sounds in areas close to shore and in harbour approaches. This course
includes three aspects of Piloting:
· Knowledge of charts, chart work and the plot.
· Awareness of conditions and the seamanship skills needed to deal with
them.
· Boat characteristics and crew responsibilities.

provided to learners.
Prerequisite:
· Basic Boating and Safe Navigation CPS Membership
