Definition of Research Ethics: The application of moral rules and professional codes of conduct to the collection, analysis, reporting, and publication of information about research subjects, in particular active acceptance of subjects' right to privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.

Bow Valley College's policies for research and research ethics are committed to conducting research according to the highest standards of research ethics and outline the responsibilities of both the college and the researcher. They comply with the Tri-Council Policy Statement (http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/NSERC-CRSNG/policies-politiques/tpsintegrity-picintegritie_eng.asp).

Please refer to the BVC Policy Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Human Participants for more information.

The Research Ethics Board (REB) has been formed at Bow Valley College to help protect participants and researchers involved in any type of research against any form of abuse, and to advise researchers on the proper construction of survey instruments to ensure that ethical principles outlined by the Tri-Council Policy Statement are adhered to.
To determine if your research requires a review by the Research Ethics Board as well as to find out about responsibilities of the college and the researcher please see our Research Ethics Board information.
