Work/Life Balance
Bow Valley College values work/life balance and offers above average vacation entitlements, commensurate with your position and years of service at the College. In addition, we have 13 statutory holidays per year and are closed from Christmas to New Years, which means that you will be on leave during this time - with pay!
Professional Development
We value lifelong learning and we live this out every day by offering our employees opportunities to take courses at the College free of charge, as long as they are relevant to their job. For those non-related, but definitely interesting courses, you may enroll if there is room in the course. This will be ataxable benefit, resulting in a minimum adjustment on your annual T4. We also provide workshops, conferences and other professional development opportunities.
Medical & Dental Coverage
Medical and Dental Benefits are important to everyone. At Bow Valley College we think they should start on your first day of employment and each continuous employee receives core benefits as part of their employment, for a small fee. We realize that you might want to coordinate with your partner/spouse, so we also give you a choice. If you need just a little coverage to top up what your family already has, select "Opt Down" and receive a reduced coverage plus cash back on your pay cheque. If you need the maximum benefits possible you may select the "Opt Up" coverage for which you pay an additional premium. If you don't need benefits at all, the Coverage will pay you a portion of the premiums we would have paid on your behalf, in lieu of benefits.
Health Spending Account
In addition, we provide a Health Spending Account to cover those extra costs that everyone seems to incur. This $500 a year entitlement can be used for anything that would normally be covered under medical and dental insurance. It can be used to cover the costs of extra glasses, contacts and paramedical practitioners, such as chiropracters and massage therapists. It can also be used to reimburse you for the premiums you pay for the extended health and dental plans.
Pension Plan
All employees become part of the Public Service Pension Plan, which means that you contribute a portion of your pay check and the College matches it. What a great way to save for your retirement. In addition, PSPP has transferability agreements with other public pension plans, so if you are currently contributing to another fund you may be able to transfer your service and pension.

Child Care Options
Bow Valley College has a Day Care available for the children of staff and students. They currently have a waitlist , but we encourage employees to put their name on the list, in case an opening becomes available. In addition, we are proud to partner with Kids and Company. BVC employees are able to take advantage of their drop- in service 14 times per year for a nominal fee, or to put their names on a waitlist for a local Kids and Company child care facility in their area.
Insurance Coverage
As a BVC employee you qualify for reduced rates on your home and auto insurance with RBC Insurance. This comes with a 60-day guarantee and could apply to your spouse and children as well. You could also be eligible for additional discounts.

YWCA Membership Discounts
We partner with the YWCA so that you can receive a reduced rate on your membership. Since the Y is so close, you can drop in on your lunch hour or stop by before or after work.
