A blend of all these attributes is essential to be chosen for a position.

Application

  • Résumé: Submit a complete résumé to our website. Chronological résumés are usually best.
  • Cover Letter: It's a good idea to include a cover letter to emphasize your strengths and briefly explain why you are a good candidate.

Interview

  • Do Your Research: If you are invited for an interview, use our website and other published materials to learn about the College to be able to show you understand its purpose and values.
  • Know The Position: Understand the job and the skills necessary to perform it successfully. Be able to explain how your past experience or knowledge will enable you to succeed, and to communicate these in a businesslike way - situation, action taken, results.
  • Know Yourself: Be ready to discuss your skills, competencies, strengths and development areas.
  • Interview Style: We use a combination of Behaviour Descriptive and traditional interviewing techniques. The interview will give you an opportunity to match your experience and behaviours to the requirements of the position. The best indication of probable future success is examples of past success.
  • Interview Panels: We use a panel of two or three interviewers for most of our competitions. Usually there will be a Human Resources representative and representative(s) from the hiring department. We strive to make the experience pleasant, friendly and professional.
  • Ask Questions: The interview is also a time for you to determine if Bow Valley College is a "fit" for you.

After the Interview

  • References: After the interviews are completed and if you are selected for the next step of the recruitment process, we will contact the employment related references that you provided.
  • Results: At the end of the interview you will be told approximately when you will hear back from us. We contact all interviewees to advise of the results of their application.
