Assistive Technology Services

Assistive Technology refers to any product or device that helps or "assists" a student to complete a task. At Bow Valley College, the Assistive Technology Lab (AT Lab) has a variety of equipment and computer software available for students with disabilities and difficulties. CSS also provides a number of Assistive Technology Services for students with disabilities including:

  • Assessments and recommendations for appropriate Assistive Technology products
  • Training and support in the use of Assistive Technology
  • Assistance with funding requests to purchase Assistive Technology
  • Preparation of alternate format materials and textbooks
  • Strategies for using Assistive Technology effectively - in the classroom, at work and at home

Assistive Technology is also available for student use in other areas throughout North Campus, including the Library and Learning Commons, student computer labs, and in the classroom. For students taking classes on one of Bow Valley College's satellite campuses, Assistive Technology can be provided for the duration of their program. Students may also be able to sign out some equipment from the AT Lab depending on their classes and specific needs.

Some of the types of equipment and software available in the AT Lab include:

  • Reading and writing software
  • Math software
  • Voice recognition software
  • Visual supports – for blind and/or visually impaired
  • Hearing supports – for hearing impaired
  • Mobility supports
  • Portable equipment and low tech devices

The Assistive Technology Lab is located in room N355 (beside Learner Success Services) and is open to students Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. For more information about Assistive Technology, or to request any AT services, please visit us to make an appointment.
