Basic Search
|
The Basic Search option allows you to search by keyword, author, title and subject. The Basic Search screen is the screen which appears when you first access the LLC catalogue. Keyword(s) Search: Enter your keywords in the Search for box then click on Search All. Example: Search for the keyword "maternity"
Author Search: If you know the author of a book or a video you are looking for, type his last name in the Search for box then click on Author. If the author's last name is common, type both the last and first name. The LLC catalogue will display all the records that contain the author's name in the author's field. Title Search: If you are looking for a particular book or video, type the entire or the first few words of the title in the Search for box and click Title. Start with the first significant word and omit articles such as "the", "a" and "an". The catalogue will display the exact title or a list of titles that has the words you typed in the title's field. Subject Search: All records in the LLC catalogue are attached to subject headings, standard terms that describe the subject of the book or the video. Subject searching is usually used to limit the number of results. Example: Type "child development" in the Search for box then click on Subject to search for the titles that are attached to the subject heading "child development".
Return to the search page and click Search All using the same keywords.
In this case, the catalogue will bring up the titles attached to the subject heading "child development" and the titles that have the two words anywhere in the record. Search tips:
