What is Blackboard and will I be using it?
Blackboard is an online learning application that allows you to access course materials, assignments, quizzes and/or grades. You can access Blackboard anywhere that has an Internet access.It is up to the instructor and department to inform you if you will be using Blackboard with your classes. If you are not sure, ask your instructor and they will be able to let you know how they will be using Blackboard with their class.
How do I log into my Bow Valley College Blackboard courses?
Access Blackboard hereClick on the LOGIN button under the Blackboard logo.
Enter your username and password for Blackboard. (Username and password will be provided at your blackboard orientation or by your instructor).
Can I access Blackboard from home?
Yes, you can access Blackboard from any computer that has an internet connection.

I have logged into Blackboard, now what should I do?
Once you have logged into Blackboard click on the course that you are taking. For example if you are taking English 20-1 click on the title of the course. Make sure you understand where your course materials are located or try sending a mail message to your instructor or to another student.
If you are not sure what to do with Blackboard, contact your instructor and they will be able to explain to you how they will be using Blackboard for their class.
Will there be a Blackboard orientation at the start of semester?
Yes, if you are new to Blackboard and are starting a new program, you will be scheduled to attend a Blackboard orientation. This will be scheduled by your program.
I have questions about assignments and course materials in my Blackboard course, what should I do?
Contact your instructor immediately as they will be able to assist you with your assignments and understanding the course materials.
Below is a list of other resources for you to find help with your courses:- If you are a Practical Nurse student, you have a tutor that is available to assist you. Please contact the Health and Community Department for more information.
- If you are in the Academic Upgrading program you can access tutors on the 2nd floor, Room 260, in the Library and Learning Commons at the North Campus. Each tutor has a sign-up sheet with available days and times. Once you have signed up, you can meet with the tutor.
- If you are a Business and Industry student, you have a tutor that is available to assist you. Please contact the Business and Industry Department for more information.
What if I don't have access to Blackboard or have missing courses on Blackboard?
You will not have access to blackboard before your program start date.
If your program has started and you cannot access Blackboard or have missing courses:
Contact Online Learning Support- 1-866-615-8923 or 403-464-0836 Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm (except holidays) and they will be able to assist you. If the problem is that your student record is not up to date or you have not paid fees they will direct you to the Registrar's Office.
Contact Learner Technology Support in the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) on the 1st floor. Learner Technology Support is located in the back corner of the LLC under the Computer Support sign.
The LLC circulation staff cannot help you with missing courses or with creating an account for Blackboard. LLC circulation staff can only help with Blackboard password resets.
What if I have forgotten my password for Blackboard?
If you have forgotten your password for Blackboard, contact the Online Learning Support Help Desk (7 days a week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm).- Local 403-464-0836

Please note the helpdesk will not reset passwords by email.
You can also go to the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) at North campus located on the 1st or 2nd floor. Photo Identification is required.
How do I change my password in Blackboard?
Log into Blackboard, click on My Settings located at the top right hand side of the screen. Click on the Change Password button. You will now be able to change your password. New passwords must be at least 6 characters long. It can be numbers, letters or a combination of both.
What if I am having technical issues with Blackboard?

Is there any information about how to use Blackboard?
Yes, there are two areas where you can find information on how to use Blackboard:
- If you have a Blackboard account, you should have access to what is called An Online Learning Resource for Students. Within this resource is a place called Blackboard Orientation and Online Tutorials. These provide information on how to use Blackboard.
- You can also access the Blackboard Tutorials on this web page.
I have to complete a test on Blackboard in the test room, what do I need to know before doing the test?
Here are some tips to help you be better prepared when taking a test in Blackboard:- Ask your instructor what kind of test you will be taking in Blackboard
- Ask your instructor if the test has any time limits or restrictions
- Ask your instructor if there are any additional materials that are required when taking the test
- The North Campus Test Room is located in Room N175
- Make sure you have a test slip before going into the test room
- Bring your student ID card or any other photo identification to show the test room supervisor
What happens if my time runs out on a Blackboard quiz or test?
Always talk with your instructor before taking any quiz or test. Your instructor will be able to clarify what kind of time limit or restrictions have been placed on the quiz or test.If you have a quiz or test that has a time limit or restriction and your instructor has indicated that you must submit the test once the time has run out, the following will happen:
Once your time has run out, a box may appear on your test screen indicating that your time has run out and you will need to submit the test. When this happens you won't be able to save or change any answers. You must go to the bottom of the screen and click on the Finish button.
You will recieve credit for all of the questions that were completed within the time limit.
IMPORTANT: Remember to click on the Save Answer button after every question when taking a blackboard quiz or test.
I have completed a Blackboard quiz or test and I need to have it reset, who should I contact?
Contact your instructor and explain to them why you need to have your quiz or test reset. The LLC staff and the Online Learning Support Help Desk cannot reset quizzes or tests.
I was completing a quiz and then it disappeared. Now I can't get it to open, what should I do?
Most likely you have minimized the quiz by clicking outside the quiz window. Check the taskbar on the bottom of your screen and see if one of the tabs reads Blackboard or the quiz title. Click on it to open up the quiz, and then maximize the quiz.

I cannot get the Blackboard quiz or test to open after clicking on the Begin Assessment button.
There are several reasons why a quiz may not open for you:
- The quiz may be password protected and you will have to write the test in the supervised test room
- The quiz or test may not have been released yet, talk to your instructor to see if the quizzes or tests will be released by a certain date.
- Your pop-up blocker may be turned on and you will have to disable it or allow the Blackboard login site through as a safe site

- If you are in the test room:
Locate the test room supervisor and they will be able to assist you. - If you are in the LLC:
Go to the Computer Support desk for assistance. - If you are at home:
Contact the Online Learning Support Help Desk (7 days a week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm) and they can try to assist you. They cannot reset your quiz or test only your instructor can do this.

Contact your instructor immediately through the Blackboard mail or talk with your instructor and explain what has happened. It will be up to your instructor to reset the quiz or test for you to take again.
I have to complete some quizzes and tests in Blackboard, where are they located?
Your quizzes and Tests are located within the course that you are taking. For example if you are taking English 10-1, you would log into Blackboard, click on the title English 10-1, then click on Assessments or Evaluation tools located either at the top or left hand side of the course screen.

eCampusAlberta is an online consortium. This means colleges from across Alberta come together to deliver courses and programs online.
How does eCampusAlberta deliver courses?
eCampusAlberta uses Blackboard to deliver their courses. Blackboard allows you to access course materials, assignments, quizzes, grades and mail. Blackboard is accessed over an internet connection.
Where do I log in to access my eCampusAlberta Blackboard courses?
Access eCampusAlberta here and log in on the right hand side of the screen.
What is my username and password?
You will be provided your username and password when your program starts. This will either be provided by your instructor or in an email from the program support. Remember to check your mybvc email frequently for college and program communications.
The username will be formed from your name and start with bv for Bow Valley.
Username: bv_first two initials of first name_last name
For example: Peter Smith's username would be bv_pe_smith
How do I upload or attach a file in Blackboard to hand in an assignment?
Ask your instructor if they want the file sent through Mail or using the Assignment Tool (may be called Evaluation Tools).
If you are using Blackboard Mail to send the assignment you can find instructions on how to do this by clicking on Using Mail to Send a File in the Blackboard Tutorials section of this web page.

What if I don't have access to eCampusAlberta? What if I am missing courses?
Once you have registered and paid for yoru courses, you should receive a letter or an email that confirms your registration for eCampusAlbertra. This message should contain a contact email or phone number. This is who you should contact if you do not have access or you are missing courses.
What if I have forgotten my password or experience technical issues?
If you have forgotten your password or are having technical issues, contact eCampusAlberta technical support at 1-866-548-8544. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What are the technical requirements for eCampusAlberta courses?

When taking courses at Bow Valley College, you are assigned a Mybvc username and password at the time your registration is accepted. Mybvc is a student web portal that allows you to access your college email, timetable, unofficial transcripts, important college dates, college policies and many more student services.
What should I do if I forget my password?
Open your Browser.
Type in http://www.bowvalleycollege.ca and press enter.
Click on BVC Login.

Click on LOGIN under the mybvc logo.
Type in your Username and Password; then click on Sign in located below the Username
and Password. Your username and password were mailed to you by the registrar's
office when your application was accepted.
If you are having a technical problem with mybvc, contact our Online Learning Support Helpdesk either by phone 403-464-0836 or toll free 1-866-615-8923, or send an email to onlinehelp@bowvalleycollege.ca, Monday to Friday 9:00am-4:00pm.
If you have a timetable-related question, contact your Admissions Officer at the Office of the Registrar.
If you require a name or address to be changed, contact the Office of the Registrar.
To change your name you must go to the Office of the Registrar and present your ID and name change documents in person.
To update address or other contact information you can submit in person a Request to Change Address/Contact form at the Office of the Registrar OR you can submit a Request to Change Address/Contact form in the mybvc web portal.
Computer Support is available at North Campus in the Library and Learning Commons 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday or at LRSSupport@bowvalleycollege.ca.

It is important that you change your Mybvc password. To make your password secure and easy to remember you need to change the password the first time you log into mybvc.
To change your password click on the Change Password link in the Online Services menu on the left hand side of the screen once you log in.

A Change Password screen will open.
Type in your current password, a new secure password, repeat the new password and click on the Change Password Link.
Your new password will take effect the next time you log in.
What Should I do if I Forget my Password?
If you are a student attending classes at Bow Valley College North Campus and you forget your password, come in person to the Library and Learning Commons to get your password reset. The circulation staff or computer support in the library will reset your mybvc password when you show them photo ID.
If you are taking classes online or you are at a distance you can contact your department or instructor and they will get your password reset for you.
You can also call the Online Learning Support Help Desk Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm at 403-464-0836 or toll free at 1-866-615-8923 to have your password reset. Learning Support will ask questions to verify your identity.
Log in to your web portal with your username and password at www.mybvc.ca.
Click on the Timetable option in the Online Services menu.

Make sure to read the announcements posted above the timetable.
If there is a problem with your timetable, contact your Admissions Officer at the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible.
Your T2202A form will be posted on your mybvc web portal as soon as it is available. This will be near the end of February.
The link to your tax form is found in the Online Services menu.

If your form is available your screen will have a green link to click to access a printable version of the form. The link will be named with the year and program of study.
After you click on the link to open your form you can print the T2202A by clicking on the print button located at the top-left of the page.
If you do not have a T2202A available and think you should, contact studentaccounts@bowvalleycollege.ca as soon as you are able with the following information:
1) Your question
2) Your full name and Student ID#
3) Your birth date
4) Your phone number and mailing address.
The most up-to-date list of important dates can be found in your mybvc web portal. This will let you know when the college is closed, when drop dates are, when term begins and other essential information. Remember to check the dates if you are not sure if the college is closed or when funding deadlines are.

| Using Mybvc Mail |
The mybvc web portal is where you will find access to your college email. To access the email, log into your web portal at www.mybvc.ca and click on the menu option for Email.
The first time you log in you will be directed to set up your email account.

Once the account is set up it is ready to use for sending and recieving email.
Tutorials are available for reading messages, sending messages, replying to messages and attaching files to messages.
