What is e-CPS?

E-CPS is the Canadian Public Health Association’s online Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties. The electronic version of the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties provides access to the most current Canadian drug information available. E-CPS contains thousands of Health Canada–approved drug monographs, links to Health Canada advisories, printable information for patients, searchable product images.

The Clin-Info section includes calculations and dosing tools, clinical monitoring tools, drug use and interaction guides, and more. The Directory provides information and links to poison control centres and hospitals, national and international health organizations and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

How to access E-CPS

You can access e-CPS through the Bow Valley College online library catalogue.

Before you access e-CPS, you will need to get an e-CPS username and password from the LLC circulation desk. NOTE: This is a different username and password than your BVC library ID.

On the Library and Learning Commons home page, type “e-CPS” in the catalogue search box and click search:

Then, click on the “Internet” version of e-CPS:

Then, click the “Bow Valley Users” link in the catalogue record as below:

Enter the username and password for e-CPS you received from the LLC circulation desk here:

How to search E-CPS

General search

Click on the tab(s) at the top of the screen that say “e-CPS” or “Search e-CPS” Search by brand name, generic name, therapeutic class or manufacturer with a corresponding keyword.

For example:

Advanced search

Use the Advanced Search to search for specific key terms within a drug monograph or across multiple drug monographs.

Example: You want to look up the effects of alcohol on clonazepam but are not sure how to spell “clonazepam.” Enter “clon” and all the results beginning with “clon” appear in the list. Then, click on clonazepam in the first box and click Add. Once the drug name is transferred to the box below, click on Continue.

Select a single section of the monograph to search, or Select All to search the entire monograph. Enter your Key Search Term, “alcohol,” in the text box and click Search:

The results will display names of additional monographs that discuss clonazepam and alcohol.

How to Print Sections of the Product Monograph

To print specific sections of a product monograph, click on the 'Printable Version' link at the top right hand side of a monograph. A window will open containing that monograph along with a selection of printable sections. All sections are pre-selected by default. To de-select a section header, click on the checkmark. Select All will re-set the page to the default. Click the Print at the top left hand side of the page. The final print document will include the section headers, along with the checkmark of those sections that were selected. Note: CPhA recommends that where product monographs are used, the full product monograph should be used.
