Blackboard imageThe Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) supports Bow Valley College's staff and instructors in skill development and effective integration of Blackboard into their instructional practice.  Whether you are looking for a general Blackboard orientation or specific how-to tips on using the various Blackboard tools, the TLC can lend a hand.  In addition to responding to technical "how do I...?" questions, the TLC offers strategies to effectively integrate the use of Blackboard into instructional practice whether you are using Blackboard to enhance your face-to-face classroom, to replace some of the time spent in a classroom (blended delivery) or to facilitate in a fully online environment. 

  • Using the Communication Tools - Mail, Discussion Board, Announcements
  • Using the Content Tools: File Manager, Learning Modules, Adding Content, Creating Assignments and Assessments
  • Using the Instructional Tools - Assignments, Assessments, Tracking Students, Group Manager, Grade Book
  • Transforming your instructional practice - from face-to-face to online incorporating research-informed best practices.
  • Using other tools to enhance your Blackboard presence such as personalizing announcements with images and audio files (instructor voice) or enhancing your Blackboard presence using web-conferencing.
  • Facilitating / moderating  online discussions

The TLC consultants offer Blackboard sessions to individual staff or faculty, groups or programs upon request.  Contact the TLC if you would like to schedule a training session with a consultant or drop-in to Room N156 at North Campus for a quick tip. Support and training can be arranged in person or virtually.  Instructors can book Blackboard orientation sessions for their learners at lrssupport@bowvalleycollege.ca

The TLC provides several self-serve options for BVC staff and faculty to enhance Blackboard and online faciitation skills:
