Events Management Certificate & Diploma

Organizing a meeting, trade show or conference, or throwing a corporate party requires many special skills and abilities. BVC’s full-time programs provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to successfully plan, organize, manage, promote, and evaluate special events. Learn how to effectively work in a business environment in a variety of roles associated with event planning.

You have the option of taking the one-year certificate program or the full two-year diploma. Courses successfully completed in the certificate program can be transferred to the diploma program.

CHECKLIST

Admission Requirements:

Refer to Admissions Procedures for Full-Time Programs on page 8
for further clarification.

• Minimum final mark of 60% in English 20-1 or credit in English
30-2 or equivalent
• Minimum final mark of 60% in Grade 10 Math (Pure or Applied)
(excluding the 14 & 16 levels)
OR:
• Successful completion of the General Equivalency Development
test (GED) with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts:
Reading and Writing and 520 in Math
OR:
• Satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions Test

International Applicants or Applicants Educated Outside of Canada

English language profi ciency can be demonstrated by any one of:

• Achievement of a TOEFL score of 527 – 530 on the paper-based
test, a score of 197 on the computer-based test, or a score of 71
on the internet-based test (iBT)
• Achieving an IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
score of 5.5
• Successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes 3
(EAP 3) program at Bow Valley College with a grade of B
• Obtain satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions Test
• Math requirement can be demonstrated by one of the following:
• Obtain satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions Test
• English transcripts showing equivalent level Math completion

Transferability

Graduates of this program may be accepted into:

• Bow Valley College - Events Management Diploma
• Athabasca University Bachelor of Professional Arts Degree in
Communication Studies
Some transfer credits are available to:
• Thompson Rivers University – Bachelor of Tourism
Management Degree
• Alberta Tourism Human Resource Council (ATEC) – Students may
write the ATEC certifi cation exam.

Prerequisite: Special Events in the Hotel Industry This course provides an overview of conventions and visitor bureaus, expositions and the incentive travel sector.
 



Customer Service

Learn how to consistently communicate a positive, friendly, ready-to-help attitude to customers and acquire strategies or dealing with angry customers with diplomacy and tact.
 


Designing and Decorating for Special Events

Prerequisite: Special Event Management
Study aesthetics, the design process, and professional practices in various types of events, including non-profit events, corporate events, weddings, fairs, and parades.
