CAREERS IN HUMAN SERVICES
Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Integrated
Do you want to work with children, but need to improve your English?
This program is a combination of English as a Second Language (or
high school level English), theory in child development,
communication, and programming with practical applications of
knowledge and skills. Graduates are able to provide quality
childcare to young children in various settings
and be eligible for Level 2 Child Care Worker certification. One
hundred per cent of graduates of this program find work in their
field.

Credit in either English 10-1 or 10-2 or equivalent
OR:
Successful completion of the General Equivalency Development
test (GED) with a standard score of 450 in Language Arts:
Reading and Writing

Satisfactory results on the BVC Admissions Test
Pre-Program Requirements
The criteria listed below must be completed prior to the first day
of classes:
Current Police Information Check (PIC) with vulnerable sector
search
Note: Students who have not submitted their documents by the start
of the program will have their Letter of Admission withdrawn.

This course prepares students for English 20-2. It
incorporates the six language arts of reading, writing, listening,
speaking, viewing and representation.

English 20-2

English 20-2 is designed to provide students with
functional English skills. Literature and practical English
skills that students need to help them in the workforce will be
studied. There is also an emphasis on improving reading and
writing skills.

English 30-2

English 30-2 incorporates the six language arts
(reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and
representation) in preparation for the requirements of the
English 30-2 diploma examination.

post-secondary level, or enter a Canadian work environment.

First Aid and CPR Level C

This course provides instruction and practice in the
first-aid treatment of fractures, burns, cuts, wounds and other
injuries. Basic Rescuer CPR Level C is included.

Basic Computer Skills for Human Service
Workers

This course provides a solid introduction to basic
computer skills. Instruction and practice are provided in
Microsoft Word, Windows and Internet applications for the
workplace.
