Life Skills Coach Certificate

The first year of the Life Skills and Career Development Coach Diploma program focuses on Life Skills Coaching, a skill-based, experiential program engaging learners in a “living lab” environment. The program provides direction and instruction for you to become an advanced facilitator/leader of process-based learning groups. The program prepares you to deal effectively with student issues and guide/coach students through the
stages of self-discovery, behaviour identification, acquisition of knowledge, transferability and application of skills. You will gain the competencies necessary to create, manage, and evaluate a program framework for the delivery of essential skills for life/work.

Admission Requirements:

Refer to Admissions Procedures for Full-Time Programs on page 8 for further clarification.
• Three to five years experience in a human or community service environment
• Credit in English 30-1 or 30-2

Additional Admission Requirements
• Personal interview to determine ready, willing, and able status prior to acceptance into the program
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Internet Navigation

Graduates of this program may be accepted into:

• Bow Valley College – Life Skills Coach Diploma Year 2

Following successful completion of the Life Skills Coach Certification
program, graduates will be recommended to pursue their Internship for
Group Certification, a two credit, off-site, elective offering.

Foundations of Coaching Theory I

Gain a theoretical understanding of the functions of a coach and gain proficiency in inter and intra-personal skills. Examine coaching theories and principles of adult education.
 


Foundations of Coaching Theory II

Through a series of professional development workshops, explore a variety of conditions affecting multi-barrier and minority group clients. Gain familiarity with the Alberta Association of Professional Life Skills Coaches and their Code of Ethics.
 


Performance Centred Counselling
