CAREERS IN HUMAN SERVICES
Orientation Course for Child Care Staff – Level I
(54 Hours)
This no fee 54-hour course is offered by Bow Valley College in
cooperation with Alberta Children’s Services and is intended for
family day home providers and caregivers working in licensed daycare
centres who have no formal training in early childhood development,
focusing on children aged 0 - 6 years. Successful completion of this
course will lead to provincial
Level 1 certification.
Funding for this program is provided by Alberta Children’s Services.
Bow Valley College also offers the Orientation Course for Childcare
Staff – Level 1 as an 84 hour course for individuals wishing to
qualify for their Level I certification whose first language is not
English and who would benefit from additional instruction on child
care concepts and vocabulary. Individuals interested in this course
should request the ESL Orientation Course for Child Care Staff –
Level I (84 Hours).

Admission
Requirements:
To be eligible to take the Orientation Course, you must be:
• A minimum of 16 years of age
• A permanent resident of Alberta
• Working in a licensed child care facility, Out of
School Programs and Family Day Home Agencies
• Must register in person and written verification of employment
Pre-Program Requirements
• Personal interest in working with young children (0-6 years of
age) in a child care setting (contingent on availability of space)
Fees & Dates
Dates: A schedule of courses with the dates of each course is
sent to licensed daycare centres. The course is offered on numerous
dates throughout the year.
