Q1 How can I submit the application?
A1: You can submit the following ways:

4. walk in: you can visit our office located on 9th floor of Rock Mountain Plaza campus. The office hours are 8:30 a.m. ~ 4:30 p.m.

Q2: Do I have to pay all fees when I submit the ESL application form or only the $100 administration fee?
A2: You can pay the $100 administration fee when you submit the application; however, the full payment is required before we can issue you a Letter of Acceptance and guarentee a seat for you.

Q3: When and how should I pay the fees?
A3: All fees must be paid before the application deadline and before we issue you a Letter of Acceptance.

You can pay fees by credit card, cash, traveller’s cheque, certified company cheque, or wire transfer to:

Q4: Can students apply for more than one term?
A4: Yes, students can apply for as many terms as they like. However, the Letter of Acceptance will show the amount paid to date, and the amount owing to complete the terms you have applied for.

Q5: Can I submit a student application for the English Language program after the deadline?

A5: Yes. We accept applications after the deadline. However, there is no guarantee of space availability. Also, we will not accept any students into the program after the first two weeks of classes.

Q6: How long does it take to process the Letter of Acceptance?
A6: If the application is complete and we have received full payment, we will send the letter to you within 48 hours or two working days. However, the receiving time may vary depending on the country to which the letter is couriered.

Q7: What is the refund policy?
A7: All requests for refunds must be received IN WRITING before classes begin and must be accompanied by:
• the original Letter of Acceptance, AND
• an acceptance letter from another school for full-time study,
• a reserved plane ticket in the students name to go out of Canada, OR
• a copy of the Letter of Refusal from the Canadian Embassy.

 
Q8: What is the transfer to another term policy?
A8: All requests for transfer must be received IN WRITING before classes begin. Each student is allowed to have one chance of free transfer to another term if you applied before the application deadline.

Q9: Do I have to pay extra fee for textbooks?
A9: No, students will receive textbooks from the instructor on the first or second day of class. Students should return the textbooks to their instructors at the end of the course in the same condition as they were first received.

Q10: When should students arrive?
A10: It is suggested that students arrive around one week prior to classes beginning.



Visa-related issues:
Q11: What is the difference between a Study Permit (student visa) and a Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa)?
A11: If a student is planning to study for more than six months, he/she will need a study permit. A Temporary Resident Permit allows a student to come to Canada with or without the intention to study. A student can study English for up to six months with a Temporary Resident Permit.

Q12: Is it possible to change from a Temporary Resident Permit to a study permit?
A12: Yes, but this change requires additional fees. Students may be required to leave Canada or go back to their countries to get the Study Permit. Therefore, we strongly recommend that a student get a Study Permit if there is any chance he/she will study longer than six months.

Health Insurance:
Q13: Does a student have to pay for health insurance at the time of application?
A13: Yes. Health insurance is mandatory for all students studying at Bow Valley College.

Q14: Where can I get details regarding the health insurance coverage?
A14: The insurance for International ESL students at Bow Valley College is provided by Student Guard. For more information, visit their website at www.studentguard.com

Placement Testing:
Q15: What is on the Placement Test?
A15: The test takes about three hours and consists of four parts:
1. Grammar test
2. Writing test: be prepared to compose an essay
3. Reading comprehension test
4. Listening & speaking test: oral interview with an examiner

Q16: When can students write the Placement Test?
A16: All new students will have the Placement Test on the first day of the class. All students must go to the second floor of our Rocky Mountain Plaza campus prior to 10:00 a.m. There will be a names lists on the board to direct you to the classroom for the exam. The test will start at 10:00 a.m.
