Students
Most of our students come to study either to improve their language skills for future careers or future studies, or for a North American cultural experience. We have a very diversified complement of students which includes Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Columbia, Russia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Fiji, East-Europe, South-America, and many more.
So, having fun and working hard are both important in our International Program.
Teachers
Our teachers are well-known for their academic credentials, and they are all very experienced. They use all the latest information from the Canadian Language Benchmarks research to keep the curriculum up to date with language acquisition theory for both instructional purposes and for assessing language competence.
Philosophy
All of our teachers believe that language is best learned in a caring environment where the needs of each student is understood and addressed. They understand that there is a great deal of fear in going to a foreign country and that learning a new language can be stressful. Getting to know each student, working hard to guide and direct learning and providing support is what we all believe are important within our program.
Levels
We accept students at all levels – from very basic to advanced. Students are placed in a level which is determined by entry exams. Ongoing assessment takes place to make sure that students can keep up with the pace of the class.
Entry Exams
The entry exam takes place at 10:00 a.m. on the first day of each intake. All the new students should arrive at the 2nd floor of the Rocky Mountain Plaza campus before the time and find their names on the billboard which indicates the classroom they should get in for the exam.
The purpose of the entry exam is to place students in a proper level. More than that, the teachers can have a brief idea of the strength and the weakness of each student so that they can assist an individual's need during and after the class.
Class Sizes
Most of our classes contain from 12 to 15 students. This is an ideal size for both students and teachers. Students get the opportunity to learn from and socialize with others in their class, and teachers can use creative grouping methods to encourage teamwork skills in learners.
