New Student Orientation energizes new learners for the road ahead

The Student Affairs Office and Learner Success Services hosted nearly 400 learners at New Student Orientation on December 20, 2011.

Students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Bow Valley College's facilities and services at this one-day event. Twenty six student LEAD volunteers, BVC Students' Association council members, as well as staff and faculty from nearly every department participated at the event - ensuring new learners had a meaningful and engaging New Student Orientation experience.

Here are some comments from new students who attended the event:

"Thank you. I hope the good start and very warm welcome and support from all the staff continues. It was very appealing to new students like me. It makes going back to school less terrifying and overwhelming. I recommended it to my friends." - PN student

"It was, over all, a great experience for me. I loved that there were people all around to answer questions or to help me find my way around campus. Everyone was so helpful." - Business Administration student

For the first time at New Student Orientation, BVC Alumni were featured in one of 18 Student Life Sessions throughout the day. Presenting Alumni on the Spot: If I knew then what I know, now Corey McKeown and Annie Dong, both current BVC employees, shared what they learned from their College experience from an Alumni perspective.

Alan Frank, Business Instructor, emphasizes the importance of students developing and refining their workplace skills in school first at the new Student Life Session Secrets to Success - At School and in the Workplace.

To welcome all new and returning learners to classes on January 5, Learner Success Services, with the support of RGO Office Products, hosted the First Day of Classes Coffee Kick-Off . Four hundred students received a BVC ceramic coffee mug and over 600 students indulged in free coffee!
