Twentieth birthday party a hit with community

Bow Valley College’s Airdrie campus turned 20 years old on March 23, and students, staff, alumni and the community gathered at the site to celebrate.

Airdrie’s Mayor, Linda Bruce, gave a congratulatory message, and joined

Sharon Carry, president and ceo, Bow Valley College and Karen Mercer, coordinator, Extension Programs, for an official cake cutting ceremony.

Instructors, alumni, current students and their families visited with one another, enjoyed an enormous birthday cake and viewed a slideshow prepared by Roxanne Baeuchle, a student in the Career Transitions program.

Roxanne completed part of her work practicum by assisting with the planning of the event. "It was a great experience. The atmosphere at the College is so positive and I really enjoyed learning about the details that go into coordinating an event like this."

After graduating from the program in April, Roxanne plans work in the marketing or event planning fields. "I really enjoyed the practicum with Bow Valley College because it’s an organization that helps the community. I would love to work for a company where I feel like I’m contributing and making a difference."
