High School Equivalency (GED) Preparation

Prepare to pass the official GED Tests and earn a High School Equivalency Diploma issued by the Department of Alberta Education and recognized in every Canadian province and territory.

GED Preparation - Full-time

This  program prepares students to successfully write the official GED Tests through one full-time term of self-paced study. The following three courses are included in the program:

  • Reading, Science & Social Studies for GED
  • Writing for GED
  • Math for GED

(Note: Students can register in Math for GED separately, but must register in both Reading for GED and Writing for GED concurrently. Students with adequate Math skills do not need to take Math for GED but will still be required to write the Math section of the GED Exams.)

Start date: Feb. 6, 2017; Mar. 6, 2017; May 3, 2017; Aug. 30, 2017

GED Preparation - Anytime Online

Take your GED preparation course online at your own pace. This all inclusive course prepares you to write the battery of GED Tests. You have access to interactive learning activities, practice tests, and instructor support. 

Start date: Feb. 1, 2017; Mar. 1, 2017; Apr. 3, 2017; May 3, 2017
Registration: Self-registration is available via MyBVC within 48 business hours after submitting your application. Please check your MyBVC email regularly for information outlining the Anytime Online course registration steps and for other formal communication sent by the College.

Note: You have 24 weeks from the start date to complete your course.

GED Preparation - Evenings

Many employers accept the General Educational Development (GED) diploma as equivalent to a high school diploma. We provide you with the skills to challenge the official GED Tests. This three evening a week traditional classroom course gives you a solid foundation in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing skills. While you are enrolled, register to write the GED Tests in each of the five subject areas. Passing all five tests gives you a High School Equivalency Diploma.

Start date: Jan. 9, 2017 to Mar. 16, 2017
                      Mar. 27, 2017 to Jun. 1, 2017
Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday (6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)
