What can I do with a Diploma in Global Tourism Management & Marketing? What is the expected growth projection in this industry?
Tourism is big business and continues to be a key contributor to our province's job creation and economic health. In Alberta this industry creates 111,000 jobs, and generates over five billion dollars in revenues. Demand for employees is consistently higher than supply. By 2025, the gap between labour supply and demand in Alberta is estimated to rise to 7,212 in Edmonton, 8,600 in Calgary and 5,973 in the rest of the province. (Canadian Tourism Human Resources Council's Tourism Labour Supply and Demand Study, 2008).
How much can I expect to earn after completing a Diploma in Global Tourism Management & Marketing?
Salaries will vary depending on which industry sector, experience and the employer's salary scale. Salaries for occupations targeted by this program range from $45,000-$60,000 in travel services, recreation, and entertainment; and $38,000 - $46,000 in accommodation and transportation. Can I transfer any of these credits towards a degree?
This diploma is new to the college as of September 2012. The College is exploring transfer agreements (both as block transfers and course by course articulation) with Universities that offer business, communication or management undergraduate degrees. We will update this information as it becomes available.
How long will it take me to complete this diploma?
The Global Tourism Management & Marketing diploma will take two years or four semesters to complete. This would also include an 8 week work experience component.
Will I need to complete a work experience component?
All students will be required to complete a four-week work experience course to receive their diploma. The work experience course will provide you with the opportunity to put your skills and talents to work in an area of special interest to you. Our work experience officers will work with you in order to ensure a suitable work placement. Some of the organizations you may be placed with include:
