Health Care Interpreter Certificate

This program is designed for fluently bilingual adults who wish to work as interpreters in the health care field. Interpreting takes place in hospitals, clinics, and other health care agencies. The program provides occupational training in both classroom and health care settings. Graduates of this program have the skills required to work as interpreters in the health care system in Calgary. Learning takes place through classroom instruction with simulated health care situations. Interpretation is practiced in small, language-specific classes and during an on-site practicum.
Admission Requirements:
- University education recommended
- Excellent oral and written knowledge of English and one other language
- Aptitude for interpreting
- Successful completion of the language proficiency test
Candidates apply to take the examination by calling 403-410-1589 and pay a fee of $125.00. There will be no refunds on the exam fee.
In addition, students taking the program require an up-to-date immunization record as approved by Bow Valley College Health Services and a police clearance, prior to the start of their practicum.
