Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Program - Part-time
Learn the English language skills you need for living, working, and studying in Canada.
For eligible applicants, there is no charge for LINC classes. Applicants must be landed immigrants or have refugee status, but cannot be Canadian citizens. Funding for this program is provided by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Applicants for the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program must be referred by the Immigrant Language and Vocational Referral Centre (ILVARC) at 403-262-2656.
LINC Listening and Speaking
Learn conversational skills required for everyday situations. Classes are offered from Canadian Language Benchmark Levels 3 - 6.

Pronunciation
This intermediate to advanced level pronunciation course introduces you to strategies and techniques to improve your spoken English. Pronunciation is a computer-assisted course and is offered in two cycles.
There is no prerequisite for either cycle.
In Cycle A, you:
- compare and contrast the production of vowel sounds; and,
- compare and contrast the production of consonant sounds
In Cycle B, you:
- learn correct word and sentence stress;
- practice intonation and rhythm patterns; and
- focus on improving listening skills
Cycle A is not a requirement for Cycle B.

Academic Writing
This advanced level class aims to provide learners with the knowledge and tools to be effective academic writers. Students taking this class will be challenged to produce strong papragraphs and/or essays. Feedback will be given to learners on strategies for improving their acadenic writing skills so that they may succeed when taking an academic writing test or being accepted into post-secondary environment.
In this course you will practice:
- writing on topic
- organizing and linking ideas
- providing supporting details and examples
- editing to ensure correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
- developing and incorporating appropriate vocabulary usage

- Practice completing test sections within the time restrictions set by IELTS
