traditional classroom. With lots of full- and part-time programs,
we have the study option that's right for you.

TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM LEARNING
At Bow Valley College, our instructors are dedicated to helping
you achieve your goals. Our programs and course materials are
designed to be fast, focused and flexible - enabling you to get to
where you want to be. You can expect a high quality learning
experience in a supportive and caring environment.
HOMESTUDY (PRINT)
Study at home and progress at your own pace. Those are just a
couple of the many advantages of studying with our Homestudy option.
Our Homestudy courses include personalised print materials with
support from an instructor. You'll get help with your studies
through e-mail and phone assistance, monthly individual tutoring
appointments and online learning.
ONLINE LEARNING
There are lots of advantages to learning online. Delivered
through the Internet and facilitated by an instructor, online
learning means you can learn at any time or place and at your own
pace. You'll get help and support through discussion forums, e-mail,
chat rooms, group-project tools and personal home pages. Online
courses have ongoing registration and give you the flexibility you
need to take the course you want.
DISTANCE AND RURAL PROGRAMS
In addition to taking classes at our main campus, which is
located just off the CTrain line, we also offer programs online and
in rural locations across southern Alberta.

ONLINE LEARNING REQUIREMENTS
Skill Requirements
• Proficiency with Windows, including experience with saving,
printing and copying files
• Experience navigating the Internet and using e-mail
• Basic word-processing skills
Technical Requirements
In order to take a course online, you’ll need access to a
computer that is connected to the Internet by a modem or a
high-speed connection, using the latest version of Internet
Explorer. Use the Browser Set-Up on the WebCT log on at
www.bowvalleycollege.ca/elearning/ to automatically ensure that
your browser is running properly for WebCT.
How to Register
For all online courses except Academic Upgrading – high school
courses, contact our Student Services office at (403) 410-1400 or
1-866-4-BVC-NOW (toll-free within Alberta). Once you are registered,
your instructor will e-mail the course details to you and send any
necessary hard-copy materials by mail. For more information or to

The Student Lounge
All Bow Valley College learners have access to the virtual
Student Lounge in WebCT. The Lounge is a place for you to connect
with other learners online and exchange and access useful
information. In the past, graduate committees have used the Lounge
to create Web pages on which they post information about grad
preparations. It’s also an online learning support centre where you
can find links to sites that may enhance your course material,
improve your study skills, help with your job search and find
information about student bursaries and awards. In the virtual
Student Lounge, learners will also find the Learning Resource
Services Online Catalogue and information about resources for
learners with disabilities. Online Study Skills modules are also
available to assist you to develop good study techniques.
An Orientation to WebCT
Bow Valley College learners also have access to the online
Orientation to WebCT. The Orientation uses screen captures to
illustrate detailed instructions on how to best use every aspect of
WebCT: from getting started and navigating to communicating, quiz
and test taking, and study tools. The Orientation is set up on all
online learner profiles and is available to them for the duration of
their studies.
eCAMPUSALBERTA
eCampusAlberta is a group of 15 Alberta colleges and technical
institutes that are working to increase access to high quality,
online learning opportunities. Through eCampusAlberta, learners will
have more online courses to choose from as well as seamless access,
regardless of the institution offering the course. Students will
also receive technical support 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
365 days a year by calling the eCampus Alberta Help Desk for
technical support. The toll free number is 1-866-548-8544. For more

Note: for all eCampusAlberta courses a technology support fee
is charged in addition to tuition.
ONLINE LEARNER SUPPORT
Bow Valley College online learners can phone the WebCT Help Desk
at (403) 464-0836 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. seven days
a week for assistance with WebCT. Learners can also email
webcthelp@bowvalleycollege.ca to receive support by the next
business day. Help Desk staff assist learners in various ways
including user ID and password problems, browser plug-ins, and WebCT
procedures such as attaching documents to e-mails or submitting
quizzes.
