Dr. Misheck Mwaba
President and CEO
Dr. Misheck Mwaba is the College’s 6th President and CEO. He has been a proud Calgarian since 2017, bringing extensive knowledge to Bow Valley College and the Calgary community. He has a breadth of experience across the Canadian post-secondary sector and internationally.
Before joining Bow Valley College, Misheck was the Dean of Media, Trades, and Technology at Niagara College. His professional experiences include designing experimental facilities and managing research and development projects at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, and teaching and research at several post-secondary institutions, including the University of Zambia, Eindhoven University of Technology, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and Algonquin College.
Misheck’s academic journey started as a mechanical engineering student at the University of Zambia. After achieving a Master’s and Ph.D., he arrived in Canada in 2003 for a postdoctoral fellowship at Carleton University. After working at Atomic Energy of Canada as a mechanical R&D engineer, he embarked on building a career in post-secondary education, first as a chair of Mechanical & Transportation Technology at Algonquin College. In 2017, he moved west to Alberta, first as Vice-President of Academic at Bow Valley College, before being appointed President and CEO in November 2020.
In January 2023, Misheck was appointed to a three-year term on the Calgary Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Vertigo Theatre Board of Directors, the Windmill Microlending Board of Directors, and previously served as a council member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). He was also previously the chair of the Alberta Comprehensive Community College Presidents and other board experience also includes Vice-Chairing the Niagara Industrial Association; Chairing the Council of Deans of Trades and Apprenticeship Canada; Vice-Chair of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Board; Member of the Arnprior Regional Health Board; and Council Member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. Most recently, Misheck was appointed chair of the Government of Alberta’s newly created Foreign Credential Advisory Committee.
In 2022, Dr. Mwaba was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal and an Alberta Newcomer Recognition Award. He was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
Vice-President, Student Experience and Digital Transformation
Lynn has an extensive career spanning all aspects of student services.
Lynn’s more than 20 years of experience includes domestic and international admissions and recruitment, registrar services, counselling, health and wellness, accessibility, financial aid, scholarships and awards, career services, student affairs, student conduct, Indigenous student services, academic support, and library services.
Lynn holds a Master of Arts – Educational Research from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Mount Allison University.
Interim Vice President, Academic
Dr. Cheryl Kinzel brings a dual perspective to academic and research priorities through roles including Dean, Technology and Innovation; Associate Dean, Research and Innovation; Director, Centre of Early Development and Applied Research, among others. Her recent work with Higher Education Strategy Associates (HESA) on their AI Steering Committee will be instrumental in moving the college forward in the AI space.
Cheryl holds a Doctor of Education (Education Research – Adult Learning) from the University of Calgary and completed her Master of Education at the University of British Columbia.
Her teaching and learning experience spans from early learning development to K-12 and post-secondary levels in the 25 years she has spent dedicated to the education space.
Vice-President, External Engagement
Tas is gifted at stakeholder relations and leads the college’s major campaigns. In her interim role, she provides leadership to the Fund Development and Alumni Engagement, Strategic Partnerships, and Government Relations teams.
Prior to joining the college, Tas was at the University of Calgary for over 10 years in Director of Development and Associate Director of Development roles, in addition to managing corporate sponsorship and gifts at the Aga Khan Foundation for several years.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Culture from the University of Calgary and has been a Calgary’s Top 40 under 40 recipient.
Tas joined Bow Valley College in 2017.
Vice-President, People and Strategy
Suzie's extensive expertise include talent management, organizational engagement, analytics, labour relations, strategic planning and execution, project management, budget planning, and workforce development.
Prior to joining the college in September 2022, she was Executive Director, Human Resources at Keyano College. She started her career in Human Resources in 2002 at Suncor Energy, where she served as Director, Human Resources from 2011 to 2013.
Suzie holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Queen's University and a B.A. from the University of Calgary.
Chief of Staff and Director, Communications
Vicky serves as the senior advisor to the President on college operational matters as well as providing support in coordinating strategic directions and managing complex issues. The Chief of Staff coordinates the President’s Office, comprised of college communications, media relations, board governance, policy administration, and internal auditing.
Vicky's experience in post-secondary education spans over 20 years and includes leading teams in academic operations, career services, student affairs, and alumni relations.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Business from the University of Calgary and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University.
