About

Clare Howland is a nursing education innovator and Chair of the Research Ethics Board with 15 years of direct patient care experience in adult ICU, pediatric emergency, and critical care. Currently pursuing a Master of Nursing in health education principles and simulation, she holds certification as a Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Her five years as a Clinical Research Nurse for the Pediatric Emergency Research Team at Alberta Children's Hospital contributed to national changes in pediatric emergency care and province-wide improvements in infectious disease surveillance. As a national leader in VR use in nursing programs, Howland designed and operationalized the PN simulation program, developed comprehensive VR programming, and conducts research comparing simulation effectiveness. Her focus on overcoming resistance to change in healthcare and education, combined with expertise in human factors and bias in program development, makes her an ideal spokesperson for healthcare innovation, nursing simulation, virtual reality in medical education, and research ethics.
