Bow Valley College’s South Campus, opened in 2013, is a key educational hub in downtown Calgary. It’s built for collaboration, with open study areas, tech-enabled classrooms, and shared spaces for students from multiple institutions.
Learning Partnerships
The South Campus hosts the Campus Alberta South partnership, including Athabasca University and the University of Lethbridge, who run their Calgary operations and classes here.
Together, the three schools share services, resources, and space to create a fully connected learning experience. Most importantly, they make it easier for students to move between programs and open up more post-secondary options for Albertans.
With support from the government, community partners, and other post-secondary institutions, Bow Valley College has become a hub for collaboration, offering more educational solutions to Alberta’s students. This partnership helped create a place where students can work together, share resources, and have more options for learning. It also makes it easier for students to move between programs and access different types of learning.
The $160 million South Campus project was funded by the Government of Alberta, the City of Calgary, Bow Valley College, and its partners. It’s located at the gateway to East Village in downtown Calgary.
The South Campus is LEED Silver certified, featuring 50 classrooms, a fourth-floor patio with rooftop gardens, student services, and easy access via the CTrain. Sustainable features include water-efficient plumbing, energy optimization, and green landscaping with drought-tolerant plants. A +15/30 connects the North and South campuses.
The Digital Entertainment Nexus (DEN)
The DEN features Calgary’s first esports arena, with seating for 70 players, 40 gaming stations, racing simulators, a broadcast suite, and a varsity training room.
The Virtual Production Hub is a full-service boutique film and media studio which also offers training in 3D animation, game development, AR/VR, esports, and more.
Event Spaces
With 25,905 gross sm. (278,848 sq. ft.) of space, it hosts more than 50 classrooms, the Esmail & Safana Bharwani Event Space, TransAlta Hall, and the Ali Family Intercultural Centre. The campus also offers underground parking, bike parking, direct access to the LRT, and the Iniikokaan Centre for student support. There's a multi-faith room, a bookstore, and a 208-seat cafeteria.
