Not everyone takes the same path to college—and that’s okay!

Alternative ways to meet your admission requirements.

At Bow Valley College, we recognize students from different backgrounds, including those with College Board SAT exam, Advanced Placement courses, the International Baccalaureate diploma, and home-based schooling. You don’t need a traditional high school diploma to be ready for college-level studies.

For course equivalencies and minimum grades, the program chair or dean will approve them. If you’re transferring from another school, check out transferalberta.alberta.ca for more info.

If you’re a mature or home-schooled learner, you can submit a 600-word letter of intent as part of your application. In the letter, share:

Make sure to submit your letter after you’ve applied—by email, mail, or in person. It should be typewritten in English and include your name, student number, and program. We’ll evaluate it based on your readiness for college-level work.

If you have a learning disability or health accommodation, you can request a30-minute interview instead of the letter, covering the same points.

Courses you take at Bow Valley College may count in place of the high school courses you need for admission. You can take many of these courses through Open Studies to qualify for admission. With a satisfactory grade, these courses may also qualify for transfer credit.
