Course Description

In collaboration with the Professional Security Knowledge Network (PSKN), Bow Valley College is offering Alberta Basic Security Training.

This is a comprehensive training course for individuals seeking to enter this industry. It is designed to increase knowledge about the daily duties and responsibilities of a security professional and build the confidence needed to meet the challenges of the workplace.

This is an online course delivered in seven modules and is equivalent to 40 hours of classroom instruction. The course prepares you to write the provincial licensing exam.

Provincial Licensing Exam

The fee includes one sitting of the exam. You can complete the one hour exam at home, being supervised by a trained and approved proctor from eProctor Canada. If you are successful, you will receive your Licensing Exam Certificate from the Alberta Solicitor General’s Office by email within 3-4 business days.

To be eligible to apply for the Provincial Licensing Exam, you must:

  • be over 18 years old,
  • be eligible to work in Canada,
  • be fluent in English,
  • have no criminal record,
  • have no outstanding criminal charges, and
  • not be the subject of a criminal investigation.

To apply for your license, you must have your Licensing Exam Certificate. Visit the Alberta Security Department Website.
