December 5, 2025 (Calgary, AB) – Bow Valley College is proud to welcome Dr. Mehdi Sheikhzadeh as the new Vice President Academic, effective February 17, 2026.

With nearly 20 years' experience as a leader in post-secondary education, innovation and applied research, Dr. Sheikhzadeh has helped build up strong institutions, strong partnerships, and excellent educational programs while keeping students at the heart of all he’s done.

In his previous role as Senior Vice President Research and Innovation at Lambton College in Ontario, Dr. Sheikhzadeh established their research and innovation program as a consistent member of the top five ranked research colleges in Canada. During his tenure he established seven specialized research centres focused on areas such as digital transformation, bio industrial processes, and energy systems.

His background in competency-based education and micro-credentials is an excellent fit at Bow Valley College, where reskilling and upskilling paired with flexible study options keep learning accessible and relevant to the workplace.

Dr. Sheikhzadeh holds a PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Western University and has held an NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges position, applying research insights to the needs of industry.

At Bow Valley College, his focus is to advance academic and research priorities in our Launch | Advance | Evolve strategic plan – fostering an inclusive, adaptive academic environment that empowers students, inspires faculty, and strengthens the College’s role as a leader in workforce-relevant, future-focused education across Alberta and beyond.
