Thelma John specializes in community engagement and student development within the rapidly growing esports sector. With a Bachelor's Degree with Honours in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Guelph, John brings a unique analytical approach to student services. Since 2017, she has worked in student services developing programs for groups ranging from 50 to 5,000 students, with experience spanning student housing, conduct, orientation, and academic integrity. As Esports Engagement Strategist within Student Services, John focuses on introducing students to esports career possibilities, personal growth opportunities, and community connections, with particular attention to marginalized and underrepresented groups. Her work challenges common assumptions about esports regarding status, career viability, toxicity, and representation issues. She is a member of the Sierra Leone Association of Alberta and regularly plans community events and workshops. John has extensive interview experience and is enthusiastic about media opportunities to discuss esports education, student engagement, and diversity in gaming.
