
Tyra Richmond is a leadership-focused early childhood educator with over 25 years of sector experience and a commitment to evidence-based, innovative practice. With a Human Services Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education from Selkirk College and a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria, Richmond currently pursues a Master of Education at the University of Calgary, focusing on leadership in post-secondary contexts. Since joining Bow Valley College in 2019, she has served as Program Chair and Faculty in the ECED program while simultaneously earning recognition for her sector leadership. In 2021, Richmond received the prestigious Child Care Award of Excellence from the Alberta Early Childhood Educators Association. Her most significant recent contribution has been pioneering implementation of "Flight," Alberta's early childhood curriculum framework, through her work as a Pedagogical Partner at the Alberta Resource Centre for Quality Enhancement. She has presented her expertise at provincial early childhood conferences, establishing herself as a thought leader in curriculum innovation and pedagogical practice. Richmond's focus areas are leadership in post-secondary education and in early childhood settings, positioning her as an essential voice on educator preparation, evidence-based practice, and systemic change in early learning.
