About

The Information Technology Solutions diploma prepares information systems specialists for a fast-moving industry. You’ll build core competencies in:

  • Network administration, virtualization, and scripting/automation
  • IT service management and customer support
  • IT business analysis and problem-solving
  • Cloud, DevOps, and cybersecurity fundamentals

Learning happens hands-on in our upgraded IT lab environment, supported by industry-aligned tools and content through partnerships with Microsoft, Cisco, and ServiceNow. In your final term, choose a field placement or a capstone project to demonstrate your skills to employers.

Career outcomes may include: junior network analyst, IT business analyst, service desk technician, systems administrator, and database analyst.

Why now: Employer demand is strong across Alberta and Canada for IT systems talent, with thousands of postings annually. This program is designed to meet that demand and help grow Calgary’s tech workforce.

How CBE works

This program uses Competency-Based Education (CBE). That means you progress by demonstrating mastery of clearly defined skills—not by time spent in class.

What you can expect:

  • Clear competencies: each course spells out the exact skills you’ll master.
  • Flexible assessment: show what you can do through labs, simulations, projects, and employer-informed tasks.
  • Credit for what you already know: prior learning can shorten your time to completion.
  • Work-integrated options: choose a field placement or capstone to build real experience and a portfolio.

Job-ready talent for a growing labour market

Bow Valley College designed Information Technology Solutions as the foundation pillar for our refreshed tech portfolio, aligning with employer needs in networking and virtualization, cloud and DevOps, and cybersecurity. With hands-on labs, CBE assessments, and industry partnerships, you’ll graduate with verified competencies that employers recognise—ready to step into Alberta’s high-demand IT roles.
