Chiu School of Business Student Team Shines with 2nd‑Place Finish at HRC West

The Chiu School of Business earned another accolade over the weekend of March 6 and 7, a reflection of our incredible students and faculty, and a testament to the experiential learning opportunities we champion at Bow Valley College.

“HRInnovate”, a team of Chiu School of Business students, placed second among 16 colleges and universities at the 2026 HRC West Case Competition, which took place at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Richmond, BC.

The competition challenges students to analyze a complex, real‑world human resources (HR) scenario developed by practicing HR professionals, and to present recommendations under tight timelines. It’s an intense, hands‑on weekend that pushes students to apply their academic learning practically.

Representing Bow Valley College were Emmanuel Ekwugha, Lily Lippe, Sue McLean, and Victor Vilar, who delivered a sharp, well‑reasoned analysis and a compelling presentation that stood out.

“[The team] demonstrated perseverance, dedication, and professionalism throughout the practice sessions and at the competition. They represented BVC very well,” shares Margaret Holden Scott, the team’s coach and instructor in the CSB. “Balancing school, work, and family life, they committed hours each week to refine their approach, strengthen their analysis, and elevate their presentation skills. Our team were absolute rockstars!”

Please join us in congratulating Emmanuel, Lily, Sue, and Victor, and in recognizing the Chiu School of Business' leadership and support.
