Payroll Professional Certificate of Achievement
(National Payroll Institute’s designation)

Bow Valley College's Payroll Professional Certificate is offered in affiliation with the National Payroll Institute. The National Payroll Institute’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is the foundation for a successful career in payroll.  The PCP courses will help you gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative requirements to keep your organization compliant throughout the annual payroll cycle. When you achieve the designation, you join a growing community of supportive professionals and gain access to the resources you need to stay current and compliant.


The PCP designation requires three core payroll courses, Financial Accounting -Introduction, and one year of weighted payroll work experience. The following courses are part of this certificate program:

Accounting Applications Certificate of Achievement 

This certificate consists of five key accounting courses that provide you with the skills to handle the accounting requirements of a business or office. Learn the basics of applied accounting, budget and financial reporting, and specialized accounting software. This certificate is ideal for careers as a junior accountant, payroll clerk, accounting technician, accounting clerk, bookkeeper, and junior financial analysts.

Advanced Accounting Applications Certificate of Achievement

These advanced accounting courses expand upon your existing financial expertise and prepare you for the next level in your career. This Advanced Accounting Applications Certificate is an add-on to the Accounting Applications Certificate. To earn the Advanced Accounting Applications Certificate, you must prove that you have previously obtained the Accounting Applications Certificate. The Advanced certificate contains three additional courses.

Prior accounting experience and knowledge is strongly recommended for these courses.

Maintenance Management Professional Certificate of Achievement (Designed by PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada)

The Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) certification program covers a breadth of topics and is relevant for the following personnel working in manufacturing and municipal infrastructure:

Participants will develop the knowledge to provide cost effective management of the existing physical assets and insight into future acquisitions, improvements in uptime, production capacity, equipment reliability, safety, environmental compliance, economic life of assets, return on investment and effective communication between departments.
